Abstract:
"In the late 1970s Ron Miller, then the Dundee school's music teacher, saw a high school steel band perform and a light flashed in his head, "We can do that!" The Dundee Central School District's Symphonic Steel Band was born. Starting with 15 drums for $750 and no knowledge of how to play them, he and his students have traveled the world giving concerts, often with standing ovations. They've played Disney World, Denmark, Austria, Boston, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and many more sites. They purpose of the traveling is to give the kids from a small upstate town a chance to see the outside world The members have to raise the money for their travels from donations from the concerts they give. Being in the band is a lfe changing experience. Ron has retired. Randy Knapp and his wife Lynette have taken his position as co-directors with the same philosophy and results. Sit back and enjoy Ron and Randy telling the fascingating and humorous history, stories and music as many of the past band members join with the current memebers fro an impromptu concert. It was a heart warming and entertaining evening."--Cover.
