Talk given by Chuck Mitchell, filmed by Jerry Lange.
"Chuck Mitchell and Rich MacAlpine spent many years together narrating cruises on Keuka Lake. The cruises were very successful fund raisers for the Yates County History Center, then the Yates County Genealogical and Historical Society. Chuck, who has a love of photography, has a photo collection of Keuka steamboats gleaned from the photo collections of the society. He was the curator for many years. Plus he had access to private photos as the owner of the Penn Yan Photo center. Over the years Chuck and Rich amassed vast Keuka Lake steamboat knowledge. One day they looked at each other and said, "We should write a book!" And in 2017 they did. This talk by Chuck Mitchell is a video version of their resulting book titled "Steamboats on Keuka Lake - Penn Yan, Hammondsport and the Heart of the Finger Lakes." It's a fascinating tour of the history of Keuka Lake steamboats from the first to the last. Their successes and disasters running from 1835 to 1922. And finally the sad end of the last boat, the Penn Yan, once the queen of Keuka Lake, rotting away on the edge of the lake from 1822 to 1932. As you watch this video, you can almost hear the whistles and noise of the engines."--Cover.
