Summary

Summary

"A thoroughly engaging read for anyone, whether new to the series or not." - Booklist Only a few months have passed since the day Kester Lanner forced an angry ghost through the spirit door, but business prospects for Dr. Ribero's supernatural agency haven't improved. Things are looking grim when the agency lands a contract which they must share with a rival agency headed by Dr Ribero's sworn enemy, Larry Higgins. Desperate for the job, the team accepts and begins to investigate the seaside town of Lyme Regis, where elderly victims are dying.

The same mysterious clue links the horrendous deaths: the victims all see a double of themselves before dying. The teams wonder if they are dealing with a rogue doppelgänger, one that isn't content just predicting deaths, but carrying them out as well. The victims' connection to an ancient grave site leads to speculation that they may have disturbed a spirit more powerful than the two agencies can handle.

One thing is certain, the won't stop unless Kester and the others can overcome their rivalry and stop this deadly spirit.

Booklist Review

The spirit wranglers of Dr. Ribero's Agency of the Supernatural are back after The Case of the Green-Dressed Ghost (2017). The elderly of Lyme Regis are dying under mysterious circumstances and in large numbers. Right before they die, they yell that they are seeing themselves being fetched. Dr. Ribero and the team need this case to balance the books, as the publicity and money from the last case are running out. Luckily, they get the case, but they also have to work with their competitor and sworn enemy, led by Larry Higgins. The case seems to have an easy answer a doppelgänger. But the supernatural killer is not behaving like a normal doppelgänger. Plus, the elderly who are dying are connected through a local history group that just discovered an ancient Celt burial site, a fact that cannot be ignored by the group. The two agencies working together is hilarious, the case is interesting, and the outcome is surprising. A thoroughly engaging read for anyone, whether new to the series or not.--Whitmore, Emily Copyright 2017 Booklist

Library Journal Review

In the aftermath of the events of The Case of the Green-Dressed Ghost, Kester Lanner is adjusting to his position at Dr. Ribero's Supernatural Agency, despite his fear of the paranormal. But Kester knows he is letting his father down by not being able to open the "spirit door"-a power supposedly passed down from his mother that would help the financially flailing agency tremendously. Desperate for the next contract, the agency must partner with Dr. Ribero's rival, Larry Higgins, in removing a murderous ghost from the town of Lyme Regis, where retirees are seeing duplicates of themselves before dying in often gruesome ways. The only clue is an ancient gravesite that no one will admit to disturbing. The agencies are pressed for time before the spirit kills again, or the teams end up murdering each other. VERDICT Banks hits her stride in this second paranormal series installment; Kester is developing as a character with more depth, personality, and experience. Fans of urban fantasies and cozy mysteries with supernatural twists will relish this adventure.-Jennifer Funk, McKendree Univ. Lib., Lebanon, IL © Copyright 2017.
